■ WHERE IT ALL STARTED
A Problem Hiding in Plain Sight - The First Solution Wasn’t Perfect - It Just Had to Work
Using everyday materials, our founder Kristopher R. Mickens created the earliest version of what would later become the Mortuary Balancing Bar™. It wasn’t polished. It wasn’t stable. It changed constantly.
But it was tested where it mattered most—inside a real funeral home, during real preparation work.
Innovation rarely starts in a laboratory. For Fanprobe, it began in the prep room of a busy Maryland funeral home handling nearly 15+ funerals each week. When staffing was limited and every moment counted, preparation and dressing often slowed down the workflow.
There was no tool specifically designed to support positioning during preparation or casketing. Funeral professionals relied on improvisation—using whatever materials were available.
That experience revealed something simple but important:
Funeral professionals needed support, not another obstacle.
■ FROM IDEA TO INNOVATION
The Mortuary Balancing Bar™ — Engineered for the Prep Room
What began as a rough prototype has evolved into a durable tool designed specifically for the realities of mortuary preparation work.
The Mortuary Balancing Bar™ provides stable support beneath the lower lumbar region, allowing funeral professionals to elevate and position a decedent during dressing and casketing without relying on improvised materials.
With approximately 6.5 inches of consistent clearance, the bar improves access, leverage, and positioning control during preparation.
Every aspect of the design was shaped through real-world use in preparation rooms—refined through feedback from embalmers, funeral directors, and removal staff.
Simple. Reliable. Built for the human side of funeral work.
